Learning
Learning by Doing.
I was 18 year old .Joined a company who make electric motors as a technical apprentice.
Prime assignment was to learn the complete electric motor assembly including lathing, wiring etc and the additional work was store keeping .
The whole stock need to be maintained and report to the Director every week.Learnt how to keep the stock register .
The next month the admin person resigned . Got Admin also. Learnt to handle employees attendance , leave and also petty cash disbursements.
One day , Director called me , gave me Rs 100 to get a change of ten rupee note denominations.
It was 1980. Rs 100 big currency. Getting a change was difficult .I could not get a change .
Director told me , now you are not only learning technical things , also how to handle petty things. Guided me to meet the manager of the the bank, get introduced and approach. As suggested ,completed the task.
After 4 months , the account person also resigned . He assigned me the bank duties also.
Weekly twice used to go to the bank for remittance , interact with the manager , employees and learnt about the current account handling.
Apart from technical learning , journey of Storekeeper to Admin to Account handling was great learning experience to face the real world and hands on approach.
