Lean Methodology

Lean Methodology.

What is Lean?
For example, We have robust processes in place used for generations ,when we relook some of the processes might have  become redundant or unwanted.

These processes can be eliminated without affecting the overall flow and the method used ,called Lean.
It is also called removing waste and creating a value chain.

This is also part  of Six Sigma quality initiatives and contributes to the system efficiency by addressing the system deficiencies.

A practical example. Yesterday , ordered new electrical fittings and some furnishing from the nearby shop.

The shopkeeper had sent the items as per the electrician requirement with out following any process.

We have got three deliveries from the shop and some of the items were not getting tallied with the requirements.

I called the shop owner .

Please itemize under three heads as below and when we had  cross-checked with the delivery boy , immediately we found what was missing and sorted out.

1. Electrical items like switches, sockets

2. Light fittings. Tubelights, Dooms, etc

3. Curtain fittings, rods, clamp, holder, etc

Now a process has been followed with clarity.
Delivery Process.

The extra items need to be returned. A Return of unwanted material process

Continued

Billing needs to be corrected. Correction of the billing process

First waste. Eliminate

If the requirements are not clear, then don't bill or despatch the items.

Benefit : Billing Correction and return of unwanted items are the two processes eliminated

Second, add value .

Cross check the items with the electrician for any issue like an item spec is not matching or not functioning etc before the despatch .

Add a process... cross-check and despatch. So that customer is doubly satisfied.

Hope this is clear .

In a professional setup, there will be having so many processes, and the respective stakeholder needs to be consulted and reviewed before modifying any steps.

Or alternately remove the unwanted steps and re run the processes .If it adds value ,
then modify and document the changes .
