Sripathi Panditaradhyula Balasubrahmanyam mostly referred to as S. P. B. or Balu is an Indian playback singer, music director, actor, dubbing artist, and film producer who works predominantly in Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, Hindi, and Malayalam. He has recorded over 40000 songs in 16 Indian languages.

His mentor in Tamil film music was the great legendary Tamil composer M.S.Viswanathan.

The young man with a golden voice approached the inimitable composer M.S. Viswanathan for an opportunity to sing in Tamil cinema. “Your voice is commendable but your Tamil diction has to improve. Learn the language and come back,” MSV advised him. The youngster took almost four years to do it.

The mentee tirelessly worked from 1965 to learn Tamil language and he gave golden hits in Tamil films from 1969 and continue to mesmerize his fans even today.

During that time of the '60s, he has established footprints in Telugu (his mother tongue) and in Kannada films.

Sweet little kid

Varun.Sweet little kid. Let us invoke the learner in us. Let us learn from everywhere. A small story. In my apartment floor, there are 6 flats., that consists of families speaking different languages. Telugu Kannada Bengali Badaga (one of the languages of Nilagiri hills belt) Tamil -2 families. A cute 2+ age, a little boy named  Varun of one of the Telugu speaking family visits all of us daily. He identifies the small things and repeats what we say. Suppose we ask him, show us the Buddha statue in Tamil and he understands and take us there. He may be playing and running inside  around for 15 minutes  or so, interacts with us in Tamil sometimes .we are also recollecting our Hyderabad days and try our little Telugu also.
